Vantaa parish union
The Lutheran congregations in Vantaa make up a parish union (seurakuntayhtymä in Finnish, kyrklig samfällighet in Swedish). The parish union owns all church buildings, cemeteries and other facilities of the Lutheran church in Vantaa and the conference centers Holma and Kuntokallio and employs people to maintain them. The parish union also runs financial administration for all of the Lutheran congregations.
In addition, the Lutheran congregations in Vantaa have agreed to arrange certain functions and services together within their parish union. These include
- church work in hospitals (although local congregations also take part in this)
- marriage counseling (phone 09 8306 330)
- church work among the deaf and blind (and others with impaired hearing or vision)
- church work in vocational schools and institutes of higher education in Vantaa
- camps, meetings and confirmation classes for the intellectually disabled, and support for their family members
- employing a deacon specially for church work among prisoners
- employing a deacon specially for church work among abusers of alcohol and drugs
- employing a deacon specially for church work among immigrants (phone 050 556 4756), although local congregations are also involved
- employing a deacon to develop urban work with NGO's and public services
- employing a pastor specialized in contacts to places where people work
- Laurinkoti (”Lawrence Home”) that provides short-term accommodation for families in crisis
- data and computer system management and editing of the website
- publishing the local Finnish-language church newspaper Vantaan Lauri
