      Adults

Worship services gather people of all ages together.  Within this website, more information can be found on the page of each local congregation and on the page Worship.

Lutheran congregations in Vantaa also have many kinds of activities that involve adults.  Some activities are specifically for women or men, and some groups are for pensioners, but many are open to all.  There are Bible study groups, prayer meetings, concerts, trips, groups that support the global mission of the church, retreats, sauna evenings for women and for men, and many other kinds of events and groups that vary a bit from one congregation to another.  You can attend meetings even if you are not a member of the church.

Christians can use their various talents to enrich the congregation and their own lives.  Those gifted in music can sing in a church choir; some congregations also have other kinds of music groups.  Volunteers are needed to teach Sunday school, lead children's clubs, arrange meetings or to assist people who are impaired in some way.  In some congregations an adult can be trained to patrol in “Operation Boot” (Saapas) that helps young people and others who are in trouble.

We also need time to rest and opportunities for relaxed fellowship.  Church facilities are not open all the time, but in many parts of Vantaa there are volunteer groups that host “open doors” so that anyone can drop in to sit down and meet others informally.  Coffee and other refreshments may be available for a very reasonable price.  “Olotila,” a street-level living room in Tikkurila is open from 9:30 am to 3 pm every weekday (except for a few weeks in the summer), address Vehkapolku 10.  In the southwestern corner of Vantaa, “Pähkinärinteen Avoimet Ovet” is open on some days of the week all year round (address Lammaskuja 2 B, ask the Hämeenkylä congregation for details).  If a church is open and there is no service or meeting going on, you can go in to rest and pray quietly on your own.

If you are a student in a vocational school or institute of higher education in Vantaa, you can contact a pastor (oppilaitospastori) who works full-time among students and staff members in them.  You should be able to find updated contact information at your school.  You are also welcome to join activities of local congregations.

If you are not a member of our church and would like to become one, see the page For adults for more information.  Depending on your background, you may need to study teachings of our church.  Then, if you have never received a Christian baptism, you can be baptized as an adult.

More information on activities of our congregations can be found in the Internet in Finland's national languages.  Updated news on various topics can be found in Finnish at www.vantaanseurakunnat.fi.
